OUR MISSION

To convert the entire labour migration sector into a demand driven process and make it highly competitive by introducing required structural changes together with necessary promotional and welfare activities to meet the international market challenges realising the importance of its contribution to the national economy.

 

OBJECTIVES

In the world employment market,

  • Increase the demand of Sri Lankan Man Power;

  • Make Public aware of its present trends thereby guide on suitable employment;

Strengthening of foreign employment upon having an efficient network on liaising governmental and nongovernmental institutions engaged in foreign employment.

 

Prospective employees outside the country be,

  • Made available a well coordinated program on training based on employment prospects in the foreign employment market;

  • Provided with facilities for foreign employment at a professional level thereby increasing the value of it;

Prospective employees outside the country of low income groups be (Samurdhi beneficiaries),

  • Made aware of prospects;

  • Trained;

  • Provided with programs of guidance and loan facilities;

Migrant employees and their families will be,

  • Provided with welfare facilities and a social security network thus compensating for natural hazards such as illnesses, accidents, disabilities and accidental deaths;

  • Provided with educational facilities for children;

  • Provided with housing facilities;

  • Enlisted in programs of value development, religious education and cultural development;

  • Weaned from drugs and other vices;

To increase the economic and social status of migrant employees by,

  • Directing towards self employment as a meaningful investment of earnings on foreign employment;

  • Provided with housing facilities based on earnings and expectations no sooner they arrive;

TARGETS

 

To Increase the numbers employed overseas by 25%. In order to that,

  • To Study on present and future trends on job opportunities in the market

  • To train prospective migrant workers on job requirements in the foreign employment market

  • To make improvements in the provision of basic facilities for prospective employees abroad

  • To provide full social security to migrant workers

  • To increase the social and economic standards of families of migrant workers

To increase the foreign exchange earnings out of foreign employment by 50%

  • To remit earning of migrant workers to Sri Lanka through proper banking channels

  • To provide tax and other relief on earnings of foreign employment

  • To provide special incentives proportional to foreign exchange earnings

  • Pension benefits to the migrant workers

To reduce rural poverty.

  • To launch a program promoting for foreign employment in Divisional Secretary areas where there are excessive number of Samurdhi Beneficiaries.

  • To providing special grant and loans to those with less earnings to obtain basic facilities for foreign employment

  • To induce in investing earnings of migrant employees towards rural small scale industries

  • To train family members of Samurdhi Beneficiaries on skilled foreign jobs

To increase the social and living standards of migrant workers.

  • To provide full social security to those migrating for foreign employment

  • To provide for educational and economic development of family members of migrant employees

  • To make arrangements for the development of social, religious and cultural values of family members of migrant employees

  • To establish welfare societies of migrant employees at Divisional Secretariat level
