MESSAGE OF THE SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF FOREIGN EMPLOYMENT PROMOTION AND WELFARE

Ministry of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare, since its establishment in January 2007, has taken very progressive steps to face the challenge of converting the practice of unskilled labour supply to foreign employment with skilled workers and professionals.

Efforts have been made to change from traditional job markets to explore new foreign job markets through scientific market research. This has created new job opportunities for Sri Lankan youths in lucrative European and other job markets.

Formulation of "The National Policy on Labour Migration" in October 2008 is an achievement of a life time for the migrant workers in Sri Lanka and entering into Agreements with receiving countries is a giant step towards securing the safe and decent working environment.

This ministry has taken a bold step in launching pilot projects directly involving in training and employing youths in foreign countries with higher salaries and better working conditions.

We are committed to achieve maximum based on our Vision to be the leading contributor to National Economy through organized foreign employment industry.
